Smokebox Numberplate “69296”, as carried by MS&L Railway, Class No. 5 0-6-2 Tank loco, designed by Parker. Built Gorton Works in 1896. Allocations included Gorton, Sheffield, Darnall. Withdrawn in 1960, 64 years plus service. 131 built which 21 reached BR days. Quickly replaced by diesel shunters. The last six were withdrawn in 1960. ‘69296’ was one of these. Repainted face, ex loco back with pattern shop casting marks, This plate was purchased by the vendors husband direct from BR for 10 shillings, £0.50p in todays money.
