Description

Locomotive Nameplate “Duchess of Lancaster”, as carried by L&NWR Precedent Class 2-4-0, designed by Webb, built Crewe.  Emerging to traffic November 1880, rebuilt as an improved Precedent Class 1897.  In fact the original locos were scrapped, only the nameplates made it on the new locos, registered as rebuilds.  These locos lasted through to the grouping, Duchess of Lancaster being withdrawn in 1927.  This nameplate is totally ex loco, being in the same family, purchased from Crewe Works by the vendors grandfather soon after withdrawal in 1927.  All the wax infill is present, no loss.  This nameplate is being offered for sale for the first time in 96 year.  A true antique.  65” long.
