Auction Details

Description

Locomotive Nameplate “Caradoc” as carried by L&NWR Precedent Class 2-4-0, designed by Webb, built at Crewe.  Emerging to traffic April 1875.  Rebuilt as an improved Precedent Class during 1894.  In fact these locos were scrapped and only the nameplates made it on to these improved Precedent completely new locomotives, although re-registered as rebuilds.  Final withdrawal came 1927.  This plate was purchased by the vendors grandfather, we presume during a works visit, sometime in 1927.  Lightly cleaned face, ex loco back.  Stamped “Rebuilt 1894” to the right hand end.  49” long.
